Dembe installs solar street lighting in Kampala slum

Dembe Group in collaboration with Signify Foundation made good on their promise to light up specific areas of Uganda. On Thursday 28th May 2020, 10 (TEN) high quality solar streetlights were installed to a huge adulation in the Kamwokya “ghetto” area.

Residents of the famous Kamwokya Ghetto watched as a team from Village Energy carefully installed the lights in previously dark and sensitive areas. The residents were quick to appreciate the efforts of the installers as they have long been at the mercy of troublemakers and dangerous individuals at night.

The locations for the Solar streetlights were carefully chosen to illuminate these very dark spots that for a long time have plagued the citizens of the area.

Conta Africa Village (as Kamwokya Ghetto is formally known), was identified by Dembe Group, Signify Foundation and Village Energy as one of the most heavily populated slum areas in the Capital city.

These lights will improve socio-economic activities and uplift living standards for the residents in the slum.
